Celebrating Mothers Day/Why us mums deserve a day just for ourselves

So Mothers Day has gone in the UK but last weekend it was Mothers Day in other countries like the US and so thought I'd take the opportunity to write a blog post dedicated to it.

Those who are in the U.S I hope you had a good day celebrating being a mamma, and I wanted to talk about why us mums deserve a day just for ourselves and it helps me look at myself as a parent, and me and my son are closer than ever. I didn't get to see him, but when I do he loves me watching TV with him and those moments can never be taken for granted and he is such a happy-go-lucky child that it is fantastic that he sees me as his mum and someone who is his friend aswell as his mother.

I used to think this is a dangerous territory, but now, no I want to be my son's friend aswell as his mother and you can be both. I want him to feel loved out of this world, as that for is important and to be there when he needs support to help him become independent. I feel we take on so much, being a parent and its booking health appointments, checking his clothes, helping with homework and so it is good to have a day where the children do the chores and we can then sit back for once.

I feel that often at times it can be a lonely world as a mum, especially in the first year, however at the same time it is rewarding. There is a lot to juggle, but we get through it and that for me is what stands out.

I have shared about my Grandmothers being influential but so has many of my mum's friends and my aunties. They have always been very much family orientated and had helped me be like that too. The one thing I am looking forward to having again, is to have a family meal time, and so on some days we will do that, and was something I did as a kid.

Being a mum I do stress sometimes and I did find the school run a mission at first, but he always got there and I am glad he loves school, he may be changing soon, but I can't wait to take him to the different parks in London again, and spend more time with him, and I hope I can still have more children, as I do love being a mum.

When you see then flourish that's when you know you've done a good job so far, so never beat yourself up and enjoy spending time with your kids and you being spoilt for once.

Many thanks for reading,

Carrie X
